Mint sets up First Time Developers Academy to nurture next generation

Specialist lender, Mint Property Finance, has launched its Mint First Time Developers Academy, to give aspiring developers confidence before starting their first project.

The lender’s head of credit, Sam Herd, will lead the academy to give future developers knowledge of the development journey and the funding process before they apply for finance.

Herd said the specialist finance industry should invest in creating the next generation of SME property developers to meet the government’s goal of delivering one-and-a-half million new homes.

The academy will educate developers on what lenders expect, how development finance works and how to prepare an application.

The programme will include a dedicated members’ area with practical learning resources, a monthly comprehensive training article, a monthly academy update with the most recent learning, and weekly social media tips, guidance and insights.

The lender will also hold quarterly Academy Live online sessions with real-life case studies and the opportunity to pose questions to experts, and a twice-yearly Academy Connect networking event for first-time developers and industry professionals.

Mint Property Finance’s development team will use their experience to form the educational programme.

Herd said: “Every experienced developer once submitted their first development finance application. We believe specialist lenders have an opportunity not only to fund the next generation of developers, but to help create them.

“By combining education with practical insight and funding expertise, we’re giving aspiring developers the confidence to take that first step.”

Mint expects the academy to evolve into an ongoing learning community, supporting first-time developers as they progress from their first project to becoming experienced SME developers.

Aspiring developers interested in joining Mint First Time Developers Academy can register their interest by emailing academy@mintpf.co.uk.
