Abnormal AI Expands OpenAI Partnership to Boost Cybersecurity

Abnormal AI will expand its use of OpenAI to support its Behavioral AI products that stop cybersecurity attacks, Abnormal AI said in a Wednesday (Aug. 19) press release.

Abnormal’s solutions protect more than 4,500 organizations, including over 25% of the Fortune 500, according to the release.

Abnormal’s anomaly detection engine analyzes identity and behavioral signals to detect attacks and compromised accounts across email and connected applications. This offering provides a defense against cybercriminals who use highly tailored attacks that exploit trusted relationships and routine workflows, the company said in an April 22 press release.

Abnormal’s expanded use of OpenAI is part of a broader partnership that will see the company extend its use of OpenAI internally across its business and product development as well as collaborate with OpenAI on new capabilities that improve security outcomes, according to the Wednesday press release.

Abnormal will join OpenAI’s Daybreak cyber partner program, which brings OpenAI together with cybersecurity companies and service providers to develop solutions for defenders, per the release.

OpenAI debuted Daybreak in May, saying this security program is designed to boost cyberdefenses, continuously secure software and help cyberdefense teams respond to threats sooner.

The companies will explore how OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex Security can complement Abnormal’s Behavioral AI. Abnormal’s Behavioral AI will continue to power its core detection and response products, according to the Wednesday press release.

Abnormal AI Founder and CEO Evan Reiser said in the release that the partnership supports the company’s mission of fighting crime and helping companies adopt the most effective AI.

“That is why Abnormal is expanding its use of OpenAI for internal business operations and software development, and why we are working together to help every enterprise adopt AI with confidence,” Reiser said.

OpenAI Head of Cyber Products Mike Aiello said in the release: “Abnormal brings deep expertise in email and identity security, and its products are already part of many workflows enterprises use to protect their people and systems. By partnering, we will help accelerate the adoption of practical defenses and bring advanced AI capabilities to more defenders through tools they already trust.”
