SEC Open Meeting On Regulation Crypto Postponed
The Securities and Exchange Commission has postponed today’s open meeting of the Commission, scheduled to address new rules for digital assets, also known as Regulation Crypto Assets. The meeting was apparently canceled because of a scheduling conflict and is expected to be revisited later.
The agenda included a presentation from the Division of Corporate Finance to consider new rules to create a “tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets.”
As the Commission is controlled by pro-innovation Republicans, a new regulatory approach is almost guaranteed. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins has consistently supported digital asset innovation and access to capital. He recently spoke on CNBC, expressing support for the CLARITY Act, the crypto market legislation that has stalled in the Senate. While a vote is expected on the bill in September, many observers believe the SEC will update rules to provide better guidance and consumer protections for the fast-growing digital asset sector.
I am committed to supporting Congress in advancing the CLARITY Act, including providing technical assistance.
