Stripe Integrates CareCredit to Expand Online Health Financing

Health and wellness providers in the United States that use Stripe will soon be able to offer CareCredit financing as part of their online checkout experience.

This capability is enabled by a new integration with Stripe that embeds CareCredit into platforms that providers already use, Synchrony, the consumer financial services company behind CareCredit, said in a Monday (Aug. 3) press release.

For providers, no additional integration will be required, according to the release.

The initial partnership will enable these businesses to offer their customers CareCredit’s standard card transactions and six-month promotional financing options, per the release.

“As more health and wellness purchases move online, providers need payment solutions that are both simple to implement and easy for patients to use,” Beto Casellas, executive vice president and CEO of Health & Wellness at Synchrony, said in the release. “By integrating CareCredit directly into Stripe, we’re making it easier for providers to offer trusted financing while helping more than 12 million CareCredit cardholders access the care and wellness products they need through the providers they already trust.”

Synchrony reported in July that during the second quarter, the company’s Health & Wellness business increased 2% year over year to $4.1 billion.

Synchrony announced in April that its CareCredit credit card can now be used to pay for select health and wellness products on Walmart.com. The credit card has long been accepted in Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations nationwide, and now it can be used online with both home delivery and in-store pickup options.

Casellas said at the time in a press release: “The healthcare journey extends far beyond the doctor’s office, and we’re committed to connecting consumers with credit options so they can access health and wellness products and services at their local retailer and during the moments that matter most.”

Synchrony announced in January that health and wellness providers who use Clover devices can now offer their patients CareCredit’s patient financing solution. This offering is enabled by an expanded integration of Synchrony with Clover, which is an all-in-one commerce solution from Fiserv.

A partnership launched in 2024 enabled providers to accept CareCredit payments via Clover devices, and the full-scale integration added in January lets them accept CareCredit credit card payments and facilitate new CareCredit applications at the point of sale.
