BitGo Unveils Aggregation Platform for Digital Asset Exchanges
Aggregation has become one of the defining trends in financial services, giving users a single interface to manage accounts spread across multiple institutions. With the launch of Link, BitGo is applying that model to institutional digital asset management.
The platform connects corporate treasurers to accounts at leading crypto exchanges, including Coinbase, Kraken, and Crypto.com, allowing them to view and manage digital assets from a unified dashboard.
For institutional users, the platform offers several potential benefits, including real-time visibility across accounts and the ability to respond more quickly to market fluctuations. Link also includes controls designed to strengthen operational safeguards and automatically reconciles transfers against records at connected exchanges.
“BitGo Link tackles a real pain point for institutions managing assets across multiple exchanges and custodians,” said Joel Hugentobler, Cryptocurrency Analyst at Javelin Strategy & Research. “A unified dashboard can simplify liquidity management, approvals and reconciliation, while giving treasury teams better visibility across fragmented venues.”
“FIs will still need to manage counterparty and exchange risks, but the real strategic advantage may not be custody—it might be control of the operating layer which BitGo is offering to institutions,” he said.
Reaching New Milestones
The launch of Link represents another landmark for the company, which has reached several milestones in recent month, including a January IPO that ranked among the largest in the crypto sector. BitGo was also among a group of crypto firms—including Circle and Ripple—that received approval to operate as a national trust bank in the U.S.
Like many of its peers, BitGo has sought to bridge digital asset infrastructure with traditional financial services. The company recently introduced a crypto-as-a-service platform that enables financial institutions to integrate digital asset capabilities without building and maintaining the underlying infrastructure themselves.
The Aggregation Question
While Link is the latest addition to BitGo’s product suite, it also reflects a broader trend that extends beyond digital assets.
In traditional financial services, aggregation platforms have become an important part of the customer experience. A single individual may have a car loan with one bank, credit cards with several others, a mortgage elsewhere, and retirement accounts with another provider. Aggregation platforms consolidate these relationships into a single interface, giving users a more comprehensive view of their finances.
If BitGo were to become the primary interface through which institutional clients manage their digital assets, individual exchanges could have fewer opportunities to engage customers directly or promote additional products and services.
This is a challenge which has brought the financial services industry at large to an inflection point, where firms face a strategic question: should they build aggregation capabilities themselves or risk become one of the providers aggregated into another platform?
